I (along with several of the other Honeys) have been sounding the call for Fox's Lucifer since last year. As a fan of the comic book series spun off from Neil Gaiman's Sandman series... it's really nothing like that. But thanks to the utter sexual magnetism of UK actor Tom Ellis in the title role, and an unexpectedly fun procedural element that works in spite of itself, Lucifer has managed to elevate above basic to one of the more charming and consistent horror-based shows currently on air.

Now, thanks to the Season 2 addition of Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer's as Luci's wayward mom, escaped from the underworld, it looks like fans of the show are in for a hell of a time.

After the Season 1 finale in which we learned that Lucifer and Amenadiel's mother had escaped hell and would likely be coming for her wayward son, Season 2 picks up with Lucifer and Detective Chloe (Lauren German) investigating the murder of an actresses' stand-in. As is usually the case with Lucifer, the case at the heart of the episode is secondary to the intrigue surrounding both Lucifer's origins and his budding relationship with Chloe. Throughout the premiere, Lucifer and Amenadiel try to figure out what body their mother has inhabited, while Chloe further confronts her concerns about Lucifer's identity.

Ella, the new forensics investigator!
So far, Season 2 is taking a few steps forward with the addition of Ella (Aimee Garcia), a forensics investigator who is passionate about her faith. Adding in a character with an alternate and dissenting, though open-minded, point of view on religion and the role the devil plays in every day life was a smart decision. It helps that Ella is sassy, and will hopefully be a nice foil to Chloe's more tempered mannerisms.

Bring on the mommy issues!
While Tricia Helfer didn't show up until the end of the episode, her appearance is already throwing Lucifer off his game, and I can't think of a better match-up for Ellis than Helfer moving forward. There is no question that Season 2 already promises more of the same fun and frolic of Season 1, with a little more moral conflict... and hopefully more of Tom Ellis' sweet, sweet ass.

Yeah, I said it.

HUGE Episode Bonus Points: We get to enjoy Tom Ellis playing the piano and singing "All Along the Watchtower." As our darling Bella says... I'll be in my bunk.
