The new Rings trailer was released yesterday via Twitter, asking users to tweet with their hashtag in order to unlock the video and watch it on a special platform platform.
So, I did…
And I laughed my ass off.
The synopsis, according to Paramount Pictures (that is in no way reflected in this trailer), describes the plot as follows:
“A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…”
So… the Samara story and video has spurred an internet subculture now?
I COULD kind of buy that idea – it seems to be a natural progression from VHS to digitalized video that could be shared on the internet.
But I was unaware that in going digital, Samara suddenly got crazy abilities to not only give someone Carrie-like supernatural powers, but to also take over technology and cause tragic accidents like airplane crashes.
Not to mention the fact that if that video ever went viral, the damn world would be dead in seven days.
Yeah. Okay. Samara is an internet virus. Sure. Whatever.
