This year, The Horror Honeys decided to take a pledge, rather that make a resolution there was zero chance of us keeping. Women in Film has launched the 52 Films by Women project, in which you take a pledge to watch just ONE film directed by a woman every week this year. Easy enough right? And since this is The Horror Honeys, we are going to guide through the project, every week this year, with a featured horror film written or directed by a fierce female!
Take the pledge yourself here, and check out our next pick below!
Kiwi director Jane Campion has been an important part of the female filmmaking community for a long time, not the least reason of which being she is only the second of four women ever to be nominated for the Best Director Academy Award (The Piano). Her filmography is varied, but perhaps the most surprising entry is the film, In the Cut, a critically-destroyed erotic thriller. While most people were horrified to see America's sweetheart, Meg Ryan, sexing it up with Mark Ruffalo in an erotic mystery, In the Cut has actually aged pretty well, especially when compared to its 00s peers. So join us, kids, and give this underdog a second chance!
In the Cut is available via iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube VOD, Vudu, Google Play, & DVD
The film is also available for free via Crackle, but because it features commercials,
it will not be used for the live tweet.
Watch In the Cut this week and tweet us
when you do, using the #52FilmsByWomen!
