The Horror Honeys: Sometimes the Future is Better Than It Used to Be...

Sometimes the Future is Better Than It Used to Be...

A List of Horror & Sci-Fi Romances with Revenge Honey Linnie

My love for time-travel romances began when I was but a wee Honey Bee, pretending to nap while my mom watched Somewhere in Time, but really watching through partially-closed eyes and listening more intently than anyone even thought I was capable. The idea that one person could love another so much, that that love would propel them through time... well, that was just the bee's knees.

As an adult, while I've grown to hate all things romantic-comedy related, I still have a soft spot for sci-fi, horror, and thriller romances. The weirder, the better, and if they happen to feature some time travel or a little bit of violence? Color me a happy and heart-warmed Honey. The following are just a few of my favorites, and if you have any suggestions for horror/sci-fi romances you think I would love, tell me on Twitter!

Somewhere in Time (1980)

"What would I say to him if he were really here? 'Forgive me. I have never known this feeling. I have lived without it all my life. Is it any wonder, then, I failed to recognize you? You, who brought it to me for the first time. Is there any way that I can tell you how my life has changed? Any way at all to let you know what sweetness you have given me? There is so much to say. I cannot find the words. Except for these: I love you.' Such would I say to him if he were really here."

The Vanishing (1988)

"Sometimes I imagine she's alive. Somewhere far away. She's very happy. And then, I have to make a choice. Either I let her go on living and never know, or I let her die and find out what happened. So... I let her die."

Wild at Heart (1990)

"Uh oh. Baby, you'd better get me back to that hotel. You got me hotter than Georgia asphalt."

A Life Less Ordinary (1997)

Celine: So you're telling me that successful relationships... are made in heaven? Not founded on the daily practicality... of two people being prepared... to tolerate the imperfections of one another?
Robert: It's not successful relationships, Celine. It's love. And it comes from a strange and wonderful place... that we don't know about.

Happy Accidents (2000)

"You are the first and the only. You're the one and only. I feel like my whole life has just been a journey into your arms."

Grimm Love (2006)

"I am your flesh."

The Fountain (2006)

"All these years, all these memories, there was you. You pull me through time."

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

Kenneth: To go it alone, or to go with a partner. When you choose a partner, you have to have compromises and sacrifices, but it's the price you pay. Do I want to follow my every whim and desire as I make my way through time and space? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, do I need someone when I'm doubting myself and I'm insecure, and my heart's failing me? Do I need someone who, when the heat gets hot, has my back?
Darius: So, do you?
Kenneth: I do.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)

"How can you've live for so long and still not get it? This self obsession is a waste of living. It could be spend in surviving things, appreciating nature, nurturing kindness and friendship, and dancing. You have been pretty lucky in love though, if I may say so."

The One I Love (2014)

"So, we met at a party, and... it was magic. Within a half-hour we were driving up into this really nice neighborhood, and we were running down the stairs of some strangers back yard, and then we were swimming, and we were in love. What we didn't count on was that even though the lights were off, the owner of the home was there. And he came out screaming at us, and it was the greatest night of my life."
