The Horror Honeys: Vampire Thursday Jam ~ 'Burnin' for You'

Vampire Thursday Jam ~ 'Burnin' for You'

Time everlasting
Time to play B-sides
Time ain't on my side
Time I'll never know
Burn out the day
Burn out the night
I'm not the one to tell you what's wrong or what's right
I've seen suns that were freezin' and lives that were through
Well I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you

It is exceedingly rare that a movie based on a book is any good. It is even rarer still that an American remake of foreign horror film is actually worth watching. But an American remake of a foreign film based on a book? That tangled web shouldn't have led anywhere positive. Yet somehow, it worked, and Let the Right One In was beautifully adapted from a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. When Let Me In was remade in the US later, despite being an almost shot-for-shot remake, it was faithful and lovely. However, one of my favorite elements of the remake was the 80s garage rock soundtrack, specifically its use of the cryptically dark "Burnin' for You" by Blue Oyster Cult. It may sound like a love song, but it's far more suited to the friendship between a boy and his blood-thirsty vampire. ~RH
