The Horror Honeys: Vampire Revenge Wednesday Jam ~ 'In the Midnight Hour'

Vampire Revenge Wednesday Jam ~ 'In the Midnight Hour'

I'm gonna wait 'til the midnight hour
That's when my love comes tumbling down
I'm gonna wait 'til the midnight hour
When there's no one else around
I'm gonna take you girl and hold you
And do all things I told you in the midnight hour
Yes I am, yes I am

The scene in the bar in Near Dark (1987), where vampires decide to have a little fun with human anatomy in a laid-back setting, is one of the more memorably terrifying moments in horror history. A year later, a pack of vamps would go bowling with human heads in Fright Night Part 2, and it's just a wee bit less effective. Mostly because the whole scene is hammy as fuuuuuuuuuuq. However, what isn't ridiculous is the song playing over that it, Wilson Pickett's "In the Midnight Hour," an undeniable classic that manages to elevate what is otherwise a scene cheesier than a Lady Gaga dress made of Kraft Singles (COPYRIGHT ME! If she does that... it was my idea). ~RH
