The Horror Honeys: Murder Monday Jam - 'Where the Wild Roses Grow'

Murder Monday Jam - 'Where the Wild Roses Grow'

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt, stood smiling, above me with a rock in his fist

On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
And I kissed her goodbye, said, "All beauty must die,"
And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth

Never before were two voices more different and more perfectly meant to be paired than those of Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue. From his album Murder Ballads, this particular track chronicles the doomed love affair between a young beauty named Elisa Day and her first lover, who just so happens to be a serial killer. Only Nick and Kylie could make a song about a man bashing in a young girl's head with a rock by the river sound ethereal and romantic, which is obviously a testament to their talent. While every track on Murder Ballads offers a beautifully dark journey into a different facet of death, "Where the Wild Roses Grow" is easily the most passionate. Bonus points for an amazing video! ~RH
