The Horror Honeys: Widmyer & Kolsch taking on "The Exorcist" with "Exorcism Diaries"

Widmyer & Kolsch taking on "The Exorcist" with "Exorcism Diaries"

Last year, one indie horror movie made so many Horror Honey "Best of the Year" lists that you'd think we'd all been paid to love it. Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch's Starry Eyes blew us (and a hell of a lot of other people) away, and the directing/writing duo behind this indie gem has been brought on by Lionsgate to rewrite (which makes me snicker because the original script was written by Oculus director Mike Flanagan, and we all know how that turned out) and direct a new possession film entitled: Exorcism Diaries

Now... as excited as I am about seeing a new project from these guys, I have to express my trepidation at another possession film trying desperately to capture the magic of The Exorcist in a really purposeful way.
Based on true story that inspired the 1970s horror classic The Exorcist, Diaries tells of a young woman, fresh out of rehab and looking to make amends, who discovers her family's horrifying connection to the most famous exorcism of all time may be the cause behind her brother's increasingly violent behavior.
From the description I'm really not sure what to expect, but I'm fairly certain that it will be a modern time setting, which (fingers crossed) will work out nicely. Plus

I'm a sucker for possession films, so I'll obviously be keeping track of developments regarding this title - for now, I'm extremely excited to see major studio attention for Kolsch and Widmeyer and I'm also glad we got them on our podcast so we can say "We talked to them before they were famous million dollar directors!" #hipstercred
