The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ Trailer for THE WITCH

Honey Buzz ~ Trailer for THE WITCH

I want to skritch the goat.
Do I get bonus powers if I skritch the goat?
If you know anything about my habits as a horror fan, you'll know that I'm obsessed with possession films... but my second favorite mini genre is witchcraft. With TV shows like American Horror Story and Salem reminding us that America has a LONG history with witchcraft, it' not surprising to see a sudden flux of films that approach the same topic... However, like possession films, films about witchcraft fall into the trap of having the same story. So when I say "I've seen it before," I mean I've seen it a million goddamn times.

The Witch has a familiar setting, but I haven't been this unsettled by a trailer in a reeeeally long time. It's magic.

The story: New England, 1630: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impassible wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. 'The Witch' is a chilling portrait of a family unraveling within their own fears and anxieties, leaving them prey for an inescapable evil.

Now, I know my history and homesteading seems like a terrifying way of life - any of you who have played the "Oregon Trail" game feel me on this too, you can die at any moment for stupid reasons. Five children? Also terrifying. So, is this actually witchcraft, or is it the innate fear of crushing isolation that is causing the rift in the family...  I can't WAIT to find out.

The Witch will have a Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 15th, so you can bet I'll be watching for any news of a full US release.
