The Horror Honeys: Murder Monday Jam ~ 'Marie Provost'

Murder Monday Jam ~ 'Marie Provost'

The cops came in and they looked around
Throwing up everywhere over what they found
The handy work of Marie's little dachshund
That hungry little dachshund
She was the winner
That became the doggie's dinner
She never meant that much to me
Woe, poor Marie

Hollywood is notorious for taking a story and spinning it into tragic legacy; no one figure is more notorious for this practice than Kenneth Agner, via his book, "Hollywood Babylon." Agner created a plethora of Hollywood falsities via his book (sold as nonfiction), but few were as lingering as the sad tale of Marie Prevost. Marie was a silent film actress who had great success prior to the popularity of talkies, but saw her career decline along with her marriage. Marie died of acute alcoholism at the age of 38, and was only discovered when neighbors heard her dog barking incessantly. Anger claimed in "Hollywood Babylon" that Prevost's dachshund had eaten her, but in reality, the pup had just been biting at her to try and wake her. However, the rumor caught on, and gained so much traction over the years, singer/songwriter Nick Lowe even wrote a song about the lost starlet.

But seriously, for the record... Marie Prevost was NOT eaten by her 10-pound dog. Come on, people. ~RH
