The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ Kick Off the Halloween Season at Son of Monsterpalooza 2015

Honey Buzz ~ Kick Off the Halloween Season at Son of Monsterpalooza 2015

Greetings, freaks, humanoids, and especially monsters! The time to climb back down from the laboratory tables, pluck the electrodes from our heads, and celebrate our second coming is almost here.

While there are conventions held all over the world that are dedicated to the horror genre as a whole, Monsterpalooza has remained one of the most anticipated events of each year for yours ghouly. Taking place in February, this convention is not just about celebrity meet-and-greets and purchasing as much obscure merchandise as one can carry; it also has a more refined focus on the aesthetics behind monster creation. Of course, you can only cram so many special guests, panels, and creatures of the night into one weekend and I'm always left with an insatiable craving for more. Luckily, I can count on another serving of monster mania when Son of Monsterpalooza rears its head just in time for the Halloween season... and 2015 is looking to be a devilishly grand year.

If you're in need of checking off several big name actors and actresses on your autograph list, this is an event that you do not want to miss. From Child's Play, a film that I personally hold close to my black heart, Tom Holland as well as Alex Vincent will be ready with shiny markers in their hands. And another dynamic duo, Danielle Harris and Tom Atkins, of Halloween franchise fame will also be around to shake hands and sign your gruesome goodies. And the list doesn't end there.

Color me thrilled!

Moving onto the aesthetic side of the convention floor, Son of Monsterpalooza takes after Monsterpalooza in that the various vendors are sure to deliver rather unusual frights to display on your shelves and hang on your walls.

In the midst of the delightfully familiar vendor tables, this year's Son of Monsterpalooza will grace its attendees with such oddities as the masks and film props designed by Mark Andrew Schneider from Portland's Faust & Company, steampunk-inspired jewelry from The Mystical Apothecary, as well as mold-making and casting materials from Reynolds Advanced Materials to help make your worst nightmares come true. Whether you're an aspiring artist or simply an admirer of dark art, Son of Monsterpalooza has such sights to show you.

I'm going to need a bigger wallet.

This convention offers endless opportunities to meet effects artists and purchase horror-inspired art, but it also allows for much discussion on the history and future of monster movies as an artform. The panels at this year's weekend event are still up for speculation as they have yet to be announced on the official Monsterpalooza website, but they never disappoint. Last year's panels included a 40th anniversary celebration of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and a Phantasm Q&A with the cast to discuss the franchise and the excitement over Phantasm V: Ravager. The current mystery of the 2015 panels has me shaking with antici... pation.

I'm just dying to know!

If you're in the Southern California area or have the means to teleport yourself to Burbank, I highly recommend crawling to Son of Monsterpalooza 2015 this Fall. And if you're feeling extra spooky, come get your kicks at the Mad Monster Party on Saturday, September 19th at 8:00PM and stick around to take a gander at the goods (and I don't mean Halloween candy) during the Miss Killifornia Pageant.

Son of Monsterpalooza will be taking place September 18th through 20th at the Marriott Burbank Hotel and Convention Center. For a full list of the special guests and events or to purchase individual tickets and weekend passes head over to Monsterpalooza.com. Gather your fangs, claws, and tails and get your Monster Mash on!
