The Horror Honeys: Hardcover Thursday Jam ~ 'Runaway'

Hardcover Thursday Jam ~ 'Runaway'

As I walk along, I wonder
A-what went wrong with our love
A love that was so strong
And as I still walk on, I think of
The things we've done together
While our hearts were young
I'm a-walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery

As a kid that grew up on oldies, the music in John Carpenter's Christine was more than a little amazing. Based on Stephen King's novel about a classic car that possesses those who take ownership of her, the only music that plays on Christine's radio comes from the era in which she was made. From Buddy Holly to Little Richard, the tunes are plentiful and they are rocking... and more than a little a sinister when you pay attention to the lyrics. While Bonnie Raitt covered Del Shannon's "Runaway" for the film, the original will always be my favorite. Even if they do sound like a threat when they're blasting from Christine's ominous speakers. ~RH
