The Horror Honeys: Supernatural Sunday Jam ~ 'Jump in the Line'

Supernatural Sunday Jam ~ 'Jump in the Line'

My girl's name is Senora
I tell you friends, I adore her
And when she dances, oh brother!
She's a hurricane in all kinds of weather
Jump in the line, rock your body in time
OK, I believe you!

With lingering buzz about the possible sequel to Beetlejuice, what better time to celebrate a few of things that made the original so fabulous? One such element was Tim Burton's unusual and wonderful decision to soundtrack some of the film's best moments with Calypso classics. (Sigh... oh to return to a time when Tim Burton had delicious ideas). While the dinner table possession scene featuring "The Banana Boat" song, performed by Harry Belafonte, is probably the best remembered scene, my personal favorite has always been the final scene where Winona Ryder's Lydia celebrates her grades by air-dancing to "Jump in the Line." I know we are all hoping against hope that Beetlejuice 2 will be amazing, yet I just don't think it will be able capture the magic of the original. But hey, I'm pretty much begging Burton to prove me wrong. ~RH
