The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ SDCC 2015

Honey Buzz ~ SDCC 2015

SDCC is coming up hard and fast, and while we won't be attending in person this year, you can sure as shit bet that we'll be watching for all of the horror news that gets lost under all of that superheroes bullshit.

Last year's SDCC was full of some unexpectedly great things for horror fans, and this year's lineup is looking similarly amazing. While most of the news is TV related, that's not a bad thing. Horror TV is on the rise, and networks (other than NBC) are embracing this new weirdness.

SO, here's a sneak peek at what we'll be watching for when SDCC kicks off on July 8th in San Diego.

‘Damien'
From executive producer Glen Mazaara (The Walking Dead, The Shield), Damien follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 motion picture who has grown up seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny: that he is the Antichrist. Get an exclusive first look at the show followed by a Q&A with cast and producers, plus a special guest appearance. - If the special guest isn't Sam Neill coming to kick this show in the face, I don't want to know about it. If you're not familiar, meet the new antichrist HERE.

'Lucifer’ Pilot Screening and Q&A
Lucifer is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar has resigned his throne and retired to the City of Angels, where he owns an upscale piano bar called Lux. When a beautiful pop star is murdered, for the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him. Is he actually capable of feelings for a human being? The very thought disturbs him. The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective Chloe Dancer, who finds herself both repulsed and fascinated by Lucifer. At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel Amenadiel, has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to Hell. But with the City of Angels at his feet and a newfound purpose, Lucifer’s having too much fun to go back now. Sexy, dark and irreverent, Lucifer makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the complete pilot episode, followed by a Q&A with series stars and producers.  ~ "Sexy, dark and irreverent?" I'd honestly totally forgotten about this series. I'm intrigued... very intrigued. *fans self*

AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead'
Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Chandler Riggs, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michael Cudlitz, and Lennie James join executive producer and showrunner Scott M. Gimple, executive producer Robert Kirkman, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer Dave Alpert, and special effects makeup supervisor and executive producer Greg Nicotero in a panel moderated by Chris Hardwick (The Nerdist, Talking Dead). The panelists will discuss the shocking finale of Season 5 and what to look forward to in Season 6, debuting this fall on AMC. Join the panelists for a Q&A session and an official sneak preview of Season 6. ~ DUH of course we'll be covering this.

‘Minority Report'
Be one of the first to take a look at FOX’s new fall sci-fi action thriller. Based on the hit futuristic Steven Spielberg feature, Minority Report follows the unlikely partnership between a man haunted by the future and a cop haunted by her past, as they race to stop the worst crimes of the year 2065 before they happen. Join Stark Sands (Inside Llewyn Davis), Meagan Good (Think Like a Man franchise, Californication) along with other cast and producers for a special screening followed by a Q&A. ~ After getting over my initial WTF on this, the previews have been a little more stellar than expected. Check out the trailer HERE.

‘iZombie’ Special Video Presentation and Q&A
After the shocking events in the season finale of brainy hit iZombie, be among the first to get the scoop on what’s in store for Season 2. Now that Liv (Rose McIver) gave the cure for zombie-ism to Blaine and Major (one that she desperately wanted to take herself!) will Ravi find a way to develop another cure? Will Clive remain in the dark about the existence of zombies? A special video presentation will be followed by a Q&A with series stars as well as executive producers Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) and Diane Ruggiero-Wright (Veronica Mars). ~ I don't like it, but some people seem to like it. Mildly interested in what will come out of this panel. Check out the Horror TV Honey's thoughts on the series HERE

Original filmmakers Sam Raimi (executive producer, director, writer), Rob Tapert(executive producer), Bruce Campbell (executive producer and star of the series, Ash), Ivan Raimi (co-exeuctive producer), and Craig DiGregorio (executive producer), along with Lucy Lawless (Ruby), discuss the highly anticipated new series and what fans can expect in the premiere season. ~ Starz is doing a LOT of pre-premiere revving on this series, which both worries and excites me.

‘Yoga Hosers'
An evening with Kevin Smith. After all the interesting and exciting movie panels are over, Hall H belongs to a middle-aged loser who dresses like a 12-year-old! (I wish these were my words, but alas, they're not.) Ask Kev questions about AMC’s Comic Book Men and his forthcoming Mallrats sequel Mallbrats (really, do we REALLY have to ask about this?), and see the world premiere of the trailer to his new movie, Yoga Hosers. With special guests from the Yoga Hosers cast. ~ I honestly couldn't give LESS of a shit about this, but some people liked TUSK (you can read my review HERE), so I'm sure people will care about the sequel for five seconds. Hooray for Canashaming and Canuxsploitation!

Legendary Pictures:
Filmmakers and talent from Legendary’s upcoming Warcraft and Crimson Peak, distributed by Universal Pictures, will discuss the innovative slate and present never-before-seen material. Chris Hardwick (AMC’s Talking Dead) hosts the panel that will also include surprises from highly anticipated legendary movies, including Great Wall, Krampus, and more. ~ Legendary's panel at SDCC 2014 came with the announcement of Kong: Skull Island, which was RAD as hell (the release date has since been pushed back, but whatever), maybe we'll get a sneak peek or a poster? I've been dying for more details about Krampus... seriously. Plus, GIVE ME CRIMSON PEAK ALL DAY OMFG. Not going to lie, this is the panel I care the most about.

SERIOUSLYYYYY

‘Outcast’ TV Series: A First Look with Robert Kirkman
Be the first to get possessed by Outcast! From Cinemax and FOX comes the exclusive first look at the TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta’s hit comic book by the same name. Outcast chronicles Kyle Barnes; a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate, and the fate of the world, forever. Executive producers Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) and Chris Black (Desperate Housewives), cast members Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous, Gone Girl), Philip Glenister (Life on Mars), and Wrenn Schmidt (Boardwalk Empire), and special surprise guests, in a panel moderated by Kumail Najiani (HBO’s Silicon Valley) discuss the highly anticipated series and debut a sneak peek of Season 1; coming worldwide in 2016. ~ Did you know about this? I didn't know about this. I'm kind of totally on board for this. Also, Patrick Fugit? Yes please!

'The Vampire Diaries': Special Video Presentation and Q&A
The cast and creative team behind The Vampire Diaries return to San Diego, for the first time in Hall H, for a sizzling seventh appearance at Comic-Con. Series stars will join executive producers on stage for a video screening and Q&A session. From Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment, and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW, and The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Sixth Season will be released on Blu-ray combo pack, DVD, and Digital HD on September 1. ~ UGH, whyyyy is this show still on the air? Oh wait... sizzling vampires... right. Yawn.

‘Supernatural’ Special Video Presentation and Q&A
Series stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Mark A. Sheppard, along with executive producer Jeremy Carver answer questions from the audience about what’s in store for the eleventh season of this exciting series. Fans will also be treated to an exclusive video presentation featuring series highlights, as well as a portion of the special features from the upcoming Supernatural: The Complete Tenth Season DVD and Blu-ray release on September 8.
~ I will never NOT pay attention to Supernatural. Duh.
DUH

‘American Horror Story’ and ‘Scream Queens'
Get ready to scream! It’s a Comic-Con horror fest when members of the all-star cast of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan’s Scream Queens (Jamie Lee Curtis, the original scream queen, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Skyler Samuels, and Keke Palmer) come face to face with the stars of Murphy and Falchuk’s American Horror Story: Freak Show and upcoming American Horror Story: Hotel (Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Matt Bomer). Moderated by Tim Stack of Entertainment Weekly, this lively gathering of headliners promises laughs, scares and secrets from the sets. ~ Despite my loathing for everything Scream Queens related, I'm in this for AHS... I'm hoping for some backstories or motivation hints for characters, some character poster releases and maybe a surprise visit from Mother Monster...
