The Horror Honeys: Saturday Morning Horror Cartoon ~ 'The Girl and the Wolf'

Saturday Morning Horror Cartoon ~ 'The Girl and the Wolf'

I love a good reimagined fairy tale. And based on the first cartoon created by animator Jonathan Button, it's obvious he does too. Because in The Girl and the Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood isn't so little anymore. And she's carrying sharps.

This isn't the first time the Honeys have featured a Button Films animation, and that's because Button has a true taste for the dark side of childhood. In his take on James Thurber's The Girl and the Wolf, our heroine is called Little Red Hoodie, and that wolf hiding in grandmother's house doesn't frighten her the way it used to. While the animation itself is a little rudimentary, the visuals are creepy, dark, and bloody, creating an atmosphere that outweighs the simpler film style. But best of all, Hoodie ends up the bad ass we always knew her to be, and she is carrying a knife that would make even the hardest of Honeys cringe.

So rock on, Red Riding Hood, and you have yourself a fabulous spooky Saturday, little monsters!
