The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ Trailer and Poster for SELF/LESS

Honey Buzz ~ Trailer and Poster for SELF/LESS

This poster is also WAY better than their
original attempt. Way more Tarsem Singh too.
Color me surprised to see a film starring Ben Kingsley and Ryan Reynolds on screen at the same time. Especially a sci-fi thriller style one. Self/less was on our Sci-Fi Honey 2015 Preview list, and the release date has been shifted forward just a little, which is kind of encouraging.

The story: An extremely wealthy man (Ben Kingsley) dying from cancer undergoes a radical medical procedure (administered/overseen by Matthew Goode) that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man (Ryan Reynolds), giving him a new lease on life, a touch of immortality. But all is not as it seems when he starts to uncover the mystery of the body's origin and the organization that will kill to protect its cause.

Sadly, Self/less suffers from the "give all the shit away in the trailer" syndrome, and you essentially get to see the entire arc of the film... Aside from some initial disappointment in that fact, we see the procedure that Kingsley undergoes, the "blank slates" that the persona of the incumbent is transferred to. We also get to see how everything (inevitably) falls apart as Kingsley in his new hot body accidentally discover that the "blank slate" was actually ripped out of his old life to be a vessel for someone else. Whoops... that's just... awkward.

While this theme, and the action in the trailer aren't what I would typically expect from director Tarsem Singh. If you're not familiar with Singh's work, I *highly* encourage you to check out the visual feasts The Cell and Immortals. I'm really interested to see where Self/less goes, and my fingers are crossed that this won't be an exercise in sci-fi cliche frustration.

Self/less hits theatres on July 10th, 2015
