The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ Choice Cannes Trailer ~ TALE OF TALES

Honey Buzz ~ Choice Cannes Trailer ~ TALE OF TALES

Cannes, the elite of the elite in the film festival world has announced its official selections for 2015, and among them is a film that I demand be put into my eye holes IMMEDIATELY.

Tale of Tales is the film adaptation of The Tale of Tales by 17th century Italian author Giambattista Basile. The film is director Matteo Garrone's (Gomorrah, The Embalmer) English-language debut. The film interweaves three separate stories bookended like any good anthology by a smaller story involving a street circus family.

Starring Salma Hayek, John C. Reilly, Toby Jones and Vincent Cassel as the royalty of three separate kingdoms (Longtrellis, Highhills and Strongcliff to be precise), I'd be lying if I didn't say that this might be the most excited I've been about a film based on the trailer since Crimson Peak - considering how many trailers I watch during any given week... that's saying something.

What's in the trailer: Salma Hayek chowing down on a dragon heart (I'm guessing, the dead lizard looks dragon-ish) with a relish that any khalasar would applaud, Vincent Cassel as a lecherous king (so French, I love him), and Toby Jones as a kind of Dr. Doolittle with fantastical beasts in his bedroom. There's also a witch, an ogre, and naked redhead, so there's really something for everyone. For anyone who has a penchant for old Fairy Tales, you know that there's not always a happy ending, and Tale of Tales doesn't look like it'll disappoint on that front. Feeling a little bit like Brothers Grimm, I'm personally all in for this fantastical history and if the trailer is any indication, Tale of Tales looks to be loaded with delicious eye candy, and a few generous helpings of genre flavor just for us.

Tale of Tales will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on July 1st.
