The Horror Honeys: Sci-Friday Jam ~ 'Wake Up'

Sci-Friday Jam ~ 'Wake Up'

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm

Sometimes, a song doesn't really fit a movie, but somehow it's still perfect. This was definitely the case of "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine when it was used at the end of The Matrix. The lyrics don't really apply to the story of Neo's evolution as the savior of mankind from their computer overlords, but those finals moments of the film, as Neo blasts off into the sky to the soaring intro of Rage's epic song... well, it works. And it has become one of the most defining scenes of sci-fi history. So have a listen to the amazing song, and remember a time when The Matrix trilogy was still a thing of the future, and full of promise.
