The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ Trailer for MAGGIE

Honey Buzz ~ Trailer for MAGGIE

Sometime around TIFF last year (September 2014 actually), a horror film popped up that no one knew anything about... it didn't have a poster, or a trailer, but it had Arnie, and zombies. But as quickly as I'd gotten intrigued by the tagline and description... Lionsgate snapped it up and ripped it right out of TIFF and into its vault.

But... I didn't forget about you Maggie! Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long, and there's a trailer and a US premiere date.

The story: A teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side.

What's in the trailer: Sticking with Lionsgate's track record of throwing the majority of the story at you in the trailer, there's a LOT to look at. First things first, the makeup looks fantastic. Maggie's infection is shown at several stages, and all of them look really great... from dark and highly detailed webbed veins to mottled skin and subtle changes to Breslin's facial structure, I'm down just based on that alone. Blissfully missing, and something I'm sure the bro's are mourning, is that Arnie isn't doing anything more than looking REALLY sad... he even cries a bit. No one is ready for this shit.

What I'm hoping for? Less of a movie about a zombie outbreak, and more of a portrait of a father daughter relationship that isn't often explored in genre films. The trailer is promising, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Maggie has in store.

Maggie will debut in a limited release on May 8th, 2015 and at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22nd.
