The Horror Honeys: Saturday Childhood Jam ~ 'Pure Imagination'

Saturday Childhood Jam ~ 'Pure Imagination'

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it
There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You'll be free
If you truly wish to be

If you didn't grow up watching the ORIGINAL film version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, your childhood may or may not have been lacking in some way. For many of us, it was actually an early (albeit musical) introduction to horror, as we saw kids could die, not all grownups could be trusted, and tunnels were always hiding things that were just... just awful. Tim Burton's creepy pastel sanitized version didn't remotely capture the horror of the original book and film, and the music in Burton's was nowhere near as wonderful as the songs composed by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley. The Fiona Apple cover of "Pure Imagination" from an ugly-cry inducing Chipotle campaign really captured the dark beauty of the original song, and this is why it is this week's Honey Jam! ~RH
