The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ A 'Wolf Creek' Mini-Series? Ooookay.

Honey Buzz ~ A 'Wolf Creek' Mini-Series? Ooookay.

Australian horror film Wolf Creek, from director Greg McLean, gained some infamy critics' circles when it became known that it was the only film beloved legend Roger Ebert ever walked out of. For many, this actually drove them to the film about backpackers brutally picked off by an Australian psychopath. But me? Well... When Wolf Creek was released, I was just about to go backpacking. In Australia. So, needless to say I didn't see it for a while after it first came out. When I did, I thought Ebert's sensitivity to the plight of the female heroines was touching, the original film was understated, unsettling, and kind of brilliant. I understood the appeal of the stark and unpleasant movie, and John Jarratt as Mick Taylor was a trip. Then... I saw Wolf Creek 2. (You can read my review here and I stand by it).

Everything unusual and brutal about the original was turned into a joke and Taylor became a goofy madman spouting off groan-worthy jokes. So the news that McLean is giving us a mini-series that will follow Wolf Creek 2? Not good, people. Not good at all.

Apparently, because Mick Taylor has become "a household name," according to McLean (in what household, I ask you?), the six-part series will air on an Australian video-on-demand service called Stan. Inevitably, some people will be excited about this news, so I'm sure we'll get word sometime soon on North American availability. In the meantime, I'm more excited about the other mini-series they announced in the same news piece, about controversial Australian politician Lionel Murphy.
