Honey Buzz: Blomkamp's Alien is Skipping Some Steps...

If it hasn't been clear from the many articles and podcast squees, most of the Honeys are pretty stoked over the idea of Neill Blomkamp taking the reins on the Alien franchise. More specifically, we are happy he's taking them AWAY from the xenophobic (by that I mean he clearly hates xenomorphs) Ridley Scott. But now, with Sigourney Weaver firmly on board, Blomkamp and Weaver have decided that they're going to pretend Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection never happened and pick up the story after Aliens... giving Ripley the ending she deserves.

Say whaaaaat?

Now, I realize I am in the minority as a huge fan of Resurrection, but this is kind of a massive kick in the nads for everyone who worked on not only that film, but Alien 3. First, as Russ Fischer at Slash Film points out, a lot of elements considered hinderances on both films were the result of Weaver's very specific plot demands. Second, while they may not be the most appreciated films in the series, they BOTH have camps of very devoted fans. I spend a massive amount of time defending my love of Resurrection, mostly because it was directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet, a director who brought his particular style to the table and most audiences didn't seem to get it. Is either film perfect? Of course not. But to just pretend neither film ever happened is almost as bad Ridley Scott referring to the alien species he creates as "dragons and shit."

Is this the right decision? Or a harbinger of more depressing announcements to come? Let me know what you think, darklings. ~Revenge Honey
