The Horror Honeys: Revenge Wednesday Jam ~ 'Rape Me'

Revenge Wednesday Jam ~ 'Rape Me'

Hate me
Do it and do it again
Waste me
Rape me, my friend
I'm not the only one
My favorite inside source
I'll kiss your open sores
I appreciate your concern
You're gonna stink and burn

When this now classic St. Kurt song was initially released, a huge majority of critics and listeners alike didn't understand what Cobain was trying to say with the evocatively titled, "Rape Me." Based on knee-jerk reactions, many believed the song co-opted sexual assault as a metaphor for Cobain's own treatment by the media or, worse, advocated rape. But ever the consummate defender of women's rights, Cobain wrote the song from the perspective of a woman who had been raped, and was merely biding her time until she found a means to seek revenge. The song is now considered one of Nirvana's greatest masterpieces, and has become an anthem for the politically-minded alt rock generation.

Plus, it's just a fucking amazing song. ~RH
