The Horror Honeys: Revenge Wednesday Jam ~ 'Bury Our Friends'

Revenge Wednesday Jam ~ 'Bury Our Friends'

Exhume our idols and bury our friends

We're wild and weary but we won't give in

We're sick with worry

These nerve less days

We live on dread in our own gilded age

This dark world is precious to me

My scars make me breathe in so deep

My body has no need for sleep

This time around

I'm sure it's no surprise to any readers of the Horror Honeys that some of us grew up as part of the riot grrrl movement. We may not have lived in cities with hand-written zines or easy access to underground shows, but we still lived for the music that echoed all of the things we felt as women, outsiders, and budding feminists. Bikini Kill, Calamity Jane, Bratmobile, these were just a few of the bands that taught us how to rage against everything that was pushing us back down. But for me? No band mattered more than Sleater-Kinney. Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein, and Janet Weiss were the women who taught me how to stand up for myself, be brave, and take shit from no one. So when it was announced that the ladies of Sleater-Kinney were coming back together for their first album in a decade, it was like the first day of Hanukkah, Halloween, and the release of a new Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie all wrapped up in one.

The new album, No Cities to Love, was released yesterday, so to celebrate, tonight's Honey Jam is one of the band's newest singles, "Bury Our Friends." Riot on, riot grrrls. Riot on. ~RH
