The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ Trailer for "Dark Summer"

Honey Buzz ~ Trailer for "Dark Summer"

Coming from IFC Midnight, Dark Summer is another addition to the recent rash of supernatural horror films that play with themes of possession.

The story (edited for my entertainment and some bad copy): Summer vacation is a time to relax, unwind, and be free, especially when you're a teenager. But 17 year old Daniel Austin gets none of that, because his obsessive online stalking of classmate and crush, Mona Wilson, lands him under house arrest for the whole summer. So, no cell phone, no Internet, no leaving the property, and especially, no Mona. - Now, I don't know about you, but this little shit got off LIGHT. Obsessive stalking? You're not setting me up to feel bad about anything that happens to poor little Daniel later on in this film.

Conveniently enough, Daniel’s single mother suddenly has to go on a long business trip, and Daniel has the house to himself.

Also conveniently, Daniel figures out a way to piggyback onto his neighbors’ wireless signal and, believing he’s surfing off the grid (is that even a thing?), he predictably uses his time to check in on his friends – and Mona... because who the fuck learns a lesson in horror movies? No one. But what Daniel didn’t expect is for Mona to be checking up on him. And what she does to her captive audience, is nothing short of amazing. Soon after, Daniel receives mysterious packages in the mail, hears strange noises, sees inanimate objects move, and feels a dark presence in the house...

Horror fans will recognize veteran actor Peter Stormare's voice and telltale profile in the trailer, and here's hoping that his presence pays off.

Part revenge story, part ghost story, and part supernatural thriller, even though the trailer gives away a LOT and there is a huge amount of familiar territory being covered, I'll still be watching to see this little shit (and his enabling friends) get what they all deserve.

You can find Dark Summer on January 9th on VOD, and limited theatrical release.
