The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ Blair Witch 3? Please don't.

Honey Buzz ~ Blair Witch 3? Please don't.

Many (many) moons ago, a film called The Blair Witch project arrived in theatres and freaked the fuck out of everyone in my generation. Personally, I lived in an isolated community, in the middle of the woods, and my family did a LOT of camping and wilderness activity type stuff... I was freaked the fuck out. Introducing most of us too young to have seen Cannibal Holocaust to the found footage genre, Blair Witch was an unprecedented hit and is really to blame for the flood of "found footage" films that followed in its shaky cam footsteps. With a very small budget and huge returns, Blair Witch was a runaway hit, and studios have been trying to duplicate that success ever since - I'm looking STRAIGHT at you Jason Blum.

Blair Witch was (of course) followed by a craptastic sequel, and it's been fifteen years since the last Blair Witch property was released. Given the state of horror lately, I'm actually NOT as surprised by this news as some people might be. SlashFilm has been covering the recurring rumors of a Blair Witch 3 on and off again, and since co-director Eduardo Sanchez has had a recent interview with Dread Central about his new GoPro sales pitch film, Exists, he brought up Blair Witch 3 again:

We have been talking to Lionsgate and there has been a little bit of movement but nothing is concrete. The film seems inevitable to me, but really it’s just a matter of it being the right time. I’m thinking it’s going to happen sooner than later at this point, but I always say that. There’s always rumblings and certain ideas being pushed around and such. While I don’t have anything firm to talk about now, it wouldn’t surprise me if something happened within the next year or two.

Truth: The ending still creeps me out.
Here's the real question... what the hell kind of storyline will we get if Blair Witch 3 actually happens? Personally, I'm a sucker for prequels, so I'll always vote for a period piece that ends where the original film picks up. Actually, maybe the real question is... does anyone care of this film makes a comeback or are we tired of studios rehashing/reviving old franchises that should just be left as they are? When does the madness end?? Ugh.
