The Horror Honeys: Horror TV Tuesday Jam - 'Jolene'

Horror TV Tuesday Jam - 'Jolene'

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene

As that weird kid who grew up with a crush on the asshole Steff from Pretty in Pink, played to sleazy perfection by James Spader, I was insanely excited at the prospect of Spader coming back to television. While his newest vehicle, The Blacklist, has proven to be a tense and brilliantly acted crime thriller, one of my favorite elements of this fairly bloody serial is the soundtrack. Each episode features a song that seems slightly out of place, and yet totally perfect, which lead to some of my favorite moments in television last season. However, my favorite song use by far occurred in a moment of marital discord, which the producers soundtracked with Dolly Parton's "Jolene," slowed down to 33 rpm. It was dark. It was brooding. It was eerie. It was utterly unforgettable. ~RH
