The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz: "Skull Island" Release Date and Title Change!

Honey Buzz: "Skull Island" Release Date and Title Change!

Thanks to SlashFilm, we have an update to share on the highly anticipated (ok, by some people) King Kong prequel that was announced at this year's SDCC. True to form for MOST major studio productions who have the budget and the ability to plan ahead several years (I'm looking at you Marvel), Skull Island has now undergone a bit of a facelift. It now has a NEW release date, a new title, and a refreshed synopsis. Don't worry, ladies and that way inclined gents, Hiddles will still be involved.

So... *drumroll please*
Skull Island will now be known as Kong: Skull Island - why the change? So that no one is confused about the involvement of a giant gorilla? Or to facilitate the porn parodies that will surely follow. Those of you who want to tweet porn parody adaptation titles at me, please do. #KongPorn

UPDATE: Spider-Man/Juno/Whiplash star J.K. Simmons is the second actor to be officially cast alongside Tom Hiddleston.

APPROVED
The release date: Originally scheduled for release November 4, 2016, Kong: Skull Island is NOW predicted to release on March 10, 2017. It’ll be released in 3D and IMAX 3D. That's a LOT of shuffling. Apparently, Pacific Rim 2 is scheduled to drop a few weeks after this new release date, which could be interesting...although, I'm not sure how much story is left for PacRim...they kind of...finished it. But hey...giant robots and monsters and shit!

The Story:
Kong: Skull Island: In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with KONG: SKULL ISLAND, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series).  Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.  Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.  Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, upcoming Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce.  The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.

So....Legendary is getting off on giant monsters in 2017. I'm hoping there will be more news between now and then to remind us of why we got all excited in the first place, because between you and me, two years is a LONG time to predict how awesome something will be without sounding disingenuous
