The Horror Honeys: Honey Buzz ~ WATCH the trailer for CHAPPIE

Honey Buzz ~ WATCH the trailer for CHAPPIE

EW dropped the trailer for Neill Blomkamp's Chappie this morning, and true to Blomkamp's previous films, it's chock full of some heavy metaphor sledgehammers, the gritty urban underbelly of South Africa, and some amazing sci-fi elements. It might be my imagination, but it feels like Blomkamp didn't get the response he wanted from District 9, so he remade the conversation a little simpler with Elysium, and has now made it again...with Chappie. This isn't to say that it doesn't look stunning, because it does, but I'm failing to see where a new conversation is being started.

What's in the trailer? Sharlto Copley voices the eponymous robot, and gives his first motion capture performance, he's childlike and adorable, and just wants to have the Power of Grayskull (double points there, Blomkamp). Dev Patel is the scientist who brings Chappie to life and begins to teach him about the world, Hugh Jackman is a jerky Aussie who doesn't like robots, and Die Antwoord is...well...Die Antwoord - Yolandi is adorable and Ninja is a weirdo who thinks he's awesome. No stretch there.

Chappie hits theatres on March 6th, 2015, and I'll definitely be lining up to see it...but once again, will we be seeing something different? Or is Chappie just District 9 with robots who want to be happy?
