The Horror Honeys: Hardcover Thursday Jam - 'Venus in Furs'

Hardcover Thursday Jam - 'Venus in Furs'

A thousand dreams that would awake me
Different colors made of tears
Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather
Shiny leather in the dark
Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

In 1870, Austrian author Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (who's last name gives us the term "masochism"), wrote the novella Venus in Furs. This story within in a story of sadomasochism and female dominance drew heavily on experiences from the author's own life and affair with fellow author Fanny Pistor (both at left). While Venus in Furs is Sacher-Masoch's only work easily found in English, it greatly inspired many other artists, including The Velvet Underground, who crafted a whole song based on the book. So enjoy this darkly romantic and pre-50 Shades take on the BDSM lifestyle. ~RH
