The Horror Honeys: Halloween Honey Jam ~ 'A Nightmare on My Street'

Halloween Honey Jam ~ 'A Nightmare on My Street'

Now I have a story that I'd like to tell
About this guy you all know him, he had me scared as hell!
He comes to me at night after I crawl into bed
He's burnt up like a weenie and his name is Fred!
He wears the same hat and sweater every single day
And even if it's hot, outside he wears it anyway!
He's gone when I'm awake but he shows up when I'm asleep
I can't believe that there's a nightmare - on my street!

Let's ride skateboards and play some Donkey Kong, dude!
I think we can all admit that this novelty track from DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince Will Smith ushered in an age when horror fans stopped taking Freddy Krueger seriously. He went from a terrifying child murderer to a wise-cracking, Nintendo-playing, merchandise-shilling punchline. And when Big Willie is singing that you're, "burnt up like a weenie," it's genuinely hard to claim that you're an actual threat to anyone anymore. Will Smith just called you a weenie, dude. It wasn't until Wes Craven took the film franchise back with New Nightmare that we saw traces of the Freddy that once was. But for a lot of people, the damage had been done.

So thanks a lot, Jazzy and Fresh. Thanks a lot.
