Every wet nurse refused to feed him

There are countless formulas for pressing flowers

There is no question that Patrick Süskind's Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is one of the most unusual and influential novels of all time. The story focuses on a young man acting as a perfume-making apprentice who himself has no natural body scent. His obsession with discovering the perfect scent leads him to murder virgins in his quest. Süskind's story of morality and identity has inspired countless other horror writers, but also leant inspiration to a trio of unlikely artists: Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Kurt Novoselic. Their song "Scentless Apprentice" off In Utero was based on Perfume. So if the track never made a ton of sense to you before, read the book... It will now. ~RH
