The Horror Honeys: Hardcover Thursday Jam - 'Baobabs'

Hardcover Thursday Jam - 'Baobabs'

You have tamed me
Now you must take me
How am I supposed to be
I don't have my thorns now
I feel them sprouting
They'll grow right though if I don't watch it
They'll grow right through even if I watch it
And a sunset couldn't save me now

If the Horror Honeys had a musical patron saint, Regina Spektor would likely be it. She's weird, she's lovely, she's dark, she can be scary, but she's always interesting and fun. So leave it to Regina to write a song based on Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry's The Little Prince, about a boy lost in the desert who has fallen to Earth from a meteor. The baobabs in the songs are trees, mentioned by the titular royal as plants that are overgrowing and choking the life from his planet. Metaphor? Probably. It's all very, Regina. ~RH
