The Horror Honeys: Supernatural Sunday Jam - 'Jeannie’s Afraid of the Dark'

Supernatural Sunday Jam - 'Jeannie’s Afraid of the Dark'

One day in the summer, we took some flowers
To place on some old family graves
Jeannie said, "Mommy, ain't it dark in the ground
Oh, Daddy, I'd be so afraid.."
Then she looked up at her daddy and me
And said somethin' that broke both our hearts
She said, "When I die, please don't bury me
'Cause Jeannie's afraid of the dark..."

There is really no sadder tale than this classic country story song from Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner. The concept of a child dying is hard enough, but the idea that a little girl could know her time on Earth was limited? That's some heartbreaking stuff. We may not know what it was that took Jeannie from her parents, but the visual of her parents leaving an eternal flame on her grave to protect her from the dark? Excuse me while I have some feels over here in the corner... ~RH
