The Horror Honeys: Monday Irish Horror Jam - 'Zombie'

Monday Irish Horror Jam - 'Zombie'

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family...
In your head, they are fighting.
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head, they are crying...

Okay, fine. Zombie song isn't remotely about flesh-eating zombies, and thus probably isn't a horror jam in the usual sense. However, if you know the backstory to this 90s power ballad from Irish band The Cranberries, it's actually a horror jam of the highest degree. Zombie is actually about the Irish fight for independence, as well an IRA bombing in Cheshire in 1993 that killed two little boys. The line, "it's the same old thing, since 1916" referred specifically to the constant battle that was waged for the cessation of violence in Ireland.

So this was truly a song a the horror of reality in the highest degree. ~RH
