The Horror Honeys: Sci-Fi New releases for 2014!

Sci-Fi New releases for 2014!

A SciFi Honey Preview

What will I be watching in 2014? These babies, for sure! A couple of them are closer to pure Sci-Fi/Sci-Fi Action, but there is a good mix, I’m pretty happy with the prospects for Sci-Fi and Sci-Fi horror this year!

In no particular order:

Transcendence -  April 2014

Johnny Depp starts as Dr. Will Caster, an artificial intelligence researcher who wants to create a sentient machine. Extremists who oppose technological advancement attempt to assassinate him, leading to his intelligence (his self?) being downloaded into the machine. The machine/Caster seeks more and more intelligence, and with it more power. Will it become unstoppable? Is it really him in there?

This looks great. In addition to Johnny Depp, it also stars Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, Kate Mara, and Cillian Murphy, I love the cast. It looks smart and action-packed. I have high hopes for this, come on Johnny, don’t pull a Lone Ranger on me here.

Edge of Tomorrow - March 2014

I am really stoked for this. Tom Cruise plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage, a ‘rookie’ officer who has never seen combat. He is dropped straight into a battle with invading aliens, and killed pretty much immediately off the top, but then wakes up right where he was dropped off, both location and time, Groundhog Day styles. He’s in a time loop, living out the same battle over and over, each time getting more skilled, and partners with Emily Blunt’s character Rita, a Special Forces soldier, as they get closer each time to defeating the invaders.

Yes it has Tom Cruise in it. But I liked War of the Worlds a lot, and the trailer and story for this looks awesome. Plus it has Emily Blunt playing a female Super Soldier, how can I NOT watch this??

Jupiter Ascending - July 2014

This is probably more pure Sci-Fi/Action, but I’m assuming people die, so death in space means it counts.

This one stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, and the awesome Sean Bean, and comes from the minds of the Wachowski’s (The Matrix), so I’m hoping this one is as good as it looks. It’s set in a future where gods rule over humans. Mila Kunis plays a Janitor named Jupiter Jones. Channing Tatum plays Caine, an interplanetary warrior sent by the Queen of the Universe to kill Jupiter, whose DNA seems to indicate she could be the next Queen of the Universe.

Why would I like this? It has a slightly mythological feel, the effects in the trailer look great, and I want to see if Sean Bean actually survives a movie for once.

Interstellar - November 2014

Why is this movie on the list, and why do I want to see it? Because it is a Christopher Nolan-Produced movie starring Matthew McConaghey and has been so closely kept under wraps that no one knows anything about it!! It might be about time travel, space, wormholes, alternate universes, giant aliens eating the universe, NO ONE HAS ANY IDEA!!

I like mysteries, sue me.

Under the Skin - March 2014

This one stars Scarlett Johansson as a highway-trolling man-eating alien. HOW CAN I NOT WATCH THIS??

I can’t give a better description than this one:

“A voluptuous woman of unknown origin combs the highway in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring a succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again.”

What’s not to love, really? This will either be really good or really bad. Early reviews look good though, so I’m cautiously optimistic.
