The Horror Honeys: February Honey Jam - 'Perfect Drug'

February Honey Jam - 'Perfect Drug'

Twisted Love Songs Edition

I come along but I don't know where you're taking me
I shouldn't go but you're wrenching dragging shaking me
turn off the sun pull the stars from the sky
the more I give to you the more I die

And I want you.

It's no secret that Trent Reznor had a rough life - I'm mean seriously, have you listened to his music?  Even now, his new music is still filled with longing, pain and angst.  Granted, it's not the same as it was in the 90s, but it's there, and it still hits you right in the feels. This particular song was written for the David Lynch film Lost Highway and was released as a single in 1997.  Based on the work of Edward Gorey, the video is a work of gothic beauty that makes this Horror Honey's heart go pitter pat.

TMI ALERT - Now, I don't know what you were doing in late highschool/early university, but I was embroiled in one of the most toxic and twisted relationships of my entire life.  I recall very vividly getting extremely drunk one night and waking up with the lyrics of this song scrawled all over my dorm room walls and door in black sharpie.  There's something about toxic love that seems to define what it is to be a troubled teen/young adult.  That moment when your awkward dream about the epic love to end all loves is crushed flat under the heel of the reality of what you're doing to yourself, and what is being done to you.  Perfect Drug defines this moment in my life, and it's definitely on my "Music to Murder By" playlist.  ~ HH
