The Horror Honeys: Hardcover Honey's Book of the Week!

Hardcover Honey's Book of the Week!

A Hardcover Honey Review
Dare Me - by Megan Abbott

Nobody does noir like Megan Abbott does noir - she has certainly proved her affection for tough-talking molls in her previous books (Queenpin being a particular standout).  This time around, the molls are rendered as high school cheerleaders, an elite group of toned and taut athletes, with a complicated and shifting system of allegiances to each other and to their young new coach.

When Coach French's new leadership seems to unseat former Queen Bee Beth and her sidekick Abby is drawn deeper and deeper into Coach French's life along with the rest of the squad, friendships and loyalties will be tested, and a suicide may not be what it seems.

Hardcover Honey says: Having been a teenage girl myself in the latchkey 80's means I am all too familiar with the hijinx that a bored group of teenage girls can get up to, although ours was more of the "making out at someone's house" variety" and less of the "covering up a murder" type.  The intensity of this book will keep you turning pages long after your curfew.
